The Oldest Beer in Japan: Sapporo Beer Museum

Updated: Mar 19

14 Day Japan Travel Itinerary

Touring Tokyo and a Journey through Japan-- these are two books I have written about my travels in Japan. Check these out!!!

It has been said, that if you have not been to the Sapporo Beer Museum, then you have not been to Hokkaido. That being said, the Sapporo Beer Museum is a popular place to visit in Sapporo, and it is considered the only beer museum in the country. In fact, the oldest beer in Japan can be found in Sapporo. Interestingly, In 1890 the museum was a sugar factory. Then in 1903, the Beer company purchased the factory. It was not until 1987, however, that the red brick building became a museum.

The museum offers tours that explain the history of the beer in Sapporo. Specifically, you can learn about the beer making process as well as the ingredients used to make the beer. You can also try the Sapporo beer.

In addition, the Sapporo Beer Museum serves amazing Genghis Khan mutton Barbecue meat at the Genghis Khan hall. The meat is also a must try in Sapporo! You can also try Genghis Khan at the Garden Grill and Lilac restaurants.

How to get to the Sapporo Beer Museum.
